(not me, I just GISed for black people running, and this is what it coughed up)

As winter may soon decide to come to a merciful close here within the next 4 weeks or so, it is time to get excited about warmer running weather. With the new season comes new goals and new challenges. I saw where a couple of my friends are going to go after a 100 mile March. Pretty simple, run/walk/jog 100 miles in March. Should be simple since I usually put in about 25-30 miles a week. It will be interesting to see how many times my car laps me in the same period of time.

SO who do you think hits what first, my car at 1000 miles or me at 100? For guessing purposes, my car is a 2007 MS3 with a bit over 97,000 on the clock, I drive it 7 days a week. I am a novice runner who just started running last August. I think it will be a dead heat. I can find explanations as to why I would want to drive more as the weather heats up and why I would like to run more. I will give the edge to the car though, but I think it only beats me by 4 days.

I will update my progress once March gets here.

Any other Jalops like to run?

Like I mentioned earlier I am pretty new to running, but I have fallen in love with it. I initially started out of competitive spite, as my rival/friend running 5k's. It was only after he lost interest in running that I wondered if I could be faster than him. Armed with only a pair of shoes, a gps running app and my rival's 5k PR, I went at it. I love the challenge of having a target to go after and I love the peace, tranquility, and spirituality of running. Plus I have lost over 50lbs from this time last year, with much of the credit due to running.

Good luck! I haven't done much running recently, I am doing more other stuff. But when I did, I found trail running much more fun than road races/running.

Much luck to you! I'll give you the benefit and bet on you over the car. :)

I love to run. Never did an organized run until last year, when I ran my first 5K. It was a blast, and I'm doing it again this spring.

Trail running is awesome, and a great workout if you find a trail with a good variance in elevation. I used to head up a weekly trail running group, but most of the members ended up moving away. Now I pretty much run solo.

Honestly all you need is just a way to track your time and distance. I recommend the RunKeeper app, which uses GPS to track your runs. It is a great tool as it tracks calories too. Just start out slow and have a reasonable goal in mind. I started where I wanted to be able to run 5k without stopping. Then I wanted to run one in under 30:00, then 29:00, then 28:00 and so on. Good music helps too.

Give it a shot! I hated running most of my life and now it's my favorite exercise(pick-up basketball is a very close 2nd).

Start by jogging shorter distances consistently. Do your best to run at least three of four days a week, even if it's only for a mile or two at molasses levels of pace.

After a a few weeks, things should start to pick up. Just keep at it!

I actually prefer running solo. It gives me time to be alone with my thoughts...

Have you thought about running any longer distance races? I probably won't run 100 miles in March, but I will have a couple 100 mile months this summer when I'm training for the 8k, 10 miler, and 2 half marathons I'm running this year.

Good luck with your race! After you get used to running, try out sprint triathlons: 750-800m swim, 12.5miles bike and 3.1 miles running. Training is not that time-consuming and you'll be entertained the whole race. I don't do them anymore because of shoulder surgery (I could do breaststroke, but breaststroke in the sea gives me the creeps), but the time I did them, I had a lot of fun.

I was signed up for the DC half marathon on March 15, until plantar faciitis got the best of me. Now I'm growing sideways at an alarming rate :*(

Yeah, I want to run a 10k in the summer and eventually a half. I've been sticking to the 5k distance just because it's a really time effective and a good benchmark.

I've really grown to enjoy running. Started when the wife and I were in Hawaii last Summer and we didn't have access to a gym so we ran. My best 5k is currently 24'54", looking to best that by this Summer. We are also training to run the Bolder Boulder in May. Between running and boxing I've been able to lose 60lbs and keep it off for over three years going.

My brother wants me to do one of these this Summer, the swim would be my toughest obstacle. I think we are going to do it though.

Do it! It is somewhat addicting once you finish the first one. The first one I did it with another person (First I did the swimming, he did the biking, and then I finished with the running) then, I did the second one with a mountain bike (big mistake: 40lbs! It was 25lbs heavier than the other road bikes) and then the rest of them I used a rented road bike (it weighed a total of 14lbs)... From finishing 190 out of 250, I finished 102. So, lesson learned: Get a good bike = not dying of peddling exhaustion haha

I'm a runner over here (KS)! Its going to be 70 today, so I'm definitely going to be out the door. 100 miles shouldn't be too awful (4 miles/day for 25 days), though I don't usually hit that number. I've run about 1200-1300 miles since April of 2011 (I was 235 lbs December 2010) and just have kept at it since then. I mix it with Nike Training Club workouts and try to do a workout every other day with a run and just run on the off days with 1-2 rest days in there.
